TGP - Summer 2006?

Tidbits From the Tundra....

Busy. Very. Lots of work and transcription kind of stuff. Always is... I'm currently in the process of a very big transition - more specifically, a move. And not just the website - I mean, me...!!! Details, soon...

Amidst the running around, I've been taking time here and there to continue transcriptions. I have a lot, as I often mention, and I truly believe the time and effort will be well worth it. Analysis of compiled data through various graphing (and eventually trending) methodologies can be prevailed upon, furthering our understanding of who we are. Once a large enough amount of this info is recorded - Viola! Neat results! Example(s) shown below...

1900 Census

1930 Occupations

James' Clan

Left graph is a State Distribution based on information transcribed from the 1900 Census, center graph is by Occupation Type from the 1930 Census and far right is pie chart of the Percentage of Distribution of the Clans of James McOrmond's children. Consider them "sketches" for this web page - far from a finished product. Accurate in their own right, for glimpse of understanding a little more about who we are....

I can hear it now: "Awww, who cares!"- Ahhh, but take heart, o' thou of skeptic nature! These are but a minuscule part of what is to come. Every bit of our Census information (through 1930) has now been transcribed. Come on now - didn't you ever wonder where and how we got all that creativity? The desire to work? Well, safe bet bet to say is that we got an enormous amount of it from our ancestors. How do we know this? On every (modern) Census from 1850 onward, an occupation of each family member was recorded. In the United States, a census is recorded every 10 years. That's a lot of people with a lot of occupations. Currently, I am presently employed as a database programmer (computer stuff); however, there was time a time when I worked in the factory as a trade machinist. No, I'm not tooting my own horn. But through the census, I can hold my head high and not have to speculate that I was 5th generation machinist. I have the proof of it! And we know McOrmond folks are working folks!

OK - not so big a deal for many of you. But imagine the possibilities when you consider something like timelines. "The impact of history on our ancestors." Wow! I've begun serious consideration of that, also. No, I haven't graphed it all out as yet, but with 90% of the information regarding our clans (based on vital records) now transcribed - well, maybe it's starting to make a little more sense to do, mmm...??? Think about that for just a minute. The possibilities are amazing!

These days, we live in a "post 9-11" world. And it's too bad, really...To point: the things we should know, we almost can't, anymore - as the impact of sociological change now occurring, mandates law(s) purporting our own protection. I won't get on my high horse about this now. I don't know enough about politics to make intelligent rebuttal, anyway. Yet, I will say I think some of these changes are rather sad. Next go round (spring?), I'll be getting into that a little more. Thankfully, through the diligence of folks in days past, we don't need sweat the details! We already have what we need - we just need a little time to put it into perspective.

That's, that for now - in a short time, I'll have a lot more to toot my horn about. The books weren't too bad (or so I've been told) - so, regarding what this graphed data will mean: good things come those who....transcribe!

The Once Upcoming Surprise...

www.McOrmond.com has moved - oh, not really very noticable - unless of course, you've taken a look in your address bar!

Where things are going...

Book is done - CD's are done... So, what's next?

"The McOrmond Movie" - of course! Yeah.... the self proclaimed whacko from the tundra is embarking on an movie making experience - of the DVD kind... Imagine that? Seeing the history of our family on the -big-uhh, actually....TV screen. But yes - that's the new thing. I have the resources to now do this. And it doesn't appear to be so impossible. I'll take some photos and clips of existing info - add the new stuff and commentary from folks - then toss everything on the hard drive. I figure after a little shaking here and there, something decent is bound to come out. And you don't have to deal with my typos, either!

Of course this momentous escapade won't be seen at the Golden Globe Awards or (especially) Cannes, France - but it should make for a neat little documentary-type-keepsake. Imagine this: A guided tour through the home (built before the turn of the past century) of James and Mary McOrmond - (both born 1819). ...or....Case Histories of Prosecuting Attorney Arthur McOrmond. or....The Adventures of Fifi - walking the campus of Westminster School, where Raymond Richards was Headmaster for many years.... and more! I might even throw in a cemetery or three.... what the heck? I've been to so many... :-)

Can you dig it, though? "TGP-The DVD" Ha! And you thought I'd forgotten all about those movie clips, I've had.... * tsk-tsk! * As usual, I'll be in touch with the details...

Last of News

As I've said, the word is: "Busy" That should tell you much of the story. However, The books are done and DNA testing is done. For the newer eyes to these pages - I have obtained the results of the DNA Testing from our Y-chromosome Genetic Profile. Really. Genetic proof of who we are. The "generic genetics page" can be found here.
Alas! The boredom of the tundra isn't boring, at all - it has tendency to be very time consuming...

TGP Book...

About the Book (and CD)...

Completed Christmas 2004, an honest-to-goodness, book to hold in your hands. The cover and binder work was OK, but not as well as I'd wished - I wanted embossed... :-) However, I'm told it came out nicely.  Please click here for an explanation from the FAQ. The CD's are also available on request....I have a few left.

I don't really take a fondness in nagging folks anymore. As I've said so often before, "If you sent it, I would print it...if you didn't, I wouldn't..." - No nagging from me!

Unfortunately, I could not fix what I did not know to be wrong - especially, if I was not made aware of it, to begin with. So, for those of you folks who have this little gem, expect a little "Errata"addendum, some time in the future. An example of clarity here: My sincere apologies to Claire - for those of you who (by now) don't know - Claire's farm was in Idaho, and NOT Iowa. I must been sleeping that day....

A Few Last Remaining Thoughts From the No-Longer-Nag-of-the-North...

Yes, I'm bit more low-key, these days - yet, the work is still getting done. Thanks ancestors for passing on the diligence! So, if you haven't been bugged by the nag-of-the-north, lately - don't be offended. Like many of you, I have full plate! I haven't forgotten ya's...

And save your money! If you're being solicited in any way for YOUR Family History, you're looking in the wrong places! Our McOrmond Family is spread out everywhere - there are adequate resources where you shouldn't have to spend one cent...starting right here. Just click here to mail me.

If you have received anything from me requiring my attention, i.e., nonfunctioning CD, or the like (Hey! It's happened, OK? I'm not perfect...) - Please let me know. I'll be happy to hook up with you and correct the situation...

Summer is here! And there is so much joy to be found with family. Take a moment and maybe a few cents to call someone and tell them you're thinking of them. Or even better, that you love them! Spend quality time with clan and enjoy our family!

Stay well!
Blessings from above and blue skies yours!
